Early Intervention Services

The early years of a child’s life are very important for their health and future development. Healthy development means that children of all abilities, including those with special health care needs, are able to grow up where their social, emotional and educational needs are met. Proper nutrition, exercise, and sleep also can make a big difference.

Developmental milestones include:

  • crawling

  • taking a first step

  • smiling

  • waving "bye-bye"

Children develop at their own pace, so exact timing varies, but milestones provide a general guide for expected changes.

A formal developmental evaluation by a specialist(s) may be necessary if a child does not meet developmental milestones as expected. Early intervention is crucial for children with developmental delays to help them succeed socially and educationally.

Cozad Community Schools and Early Development Network (EDN) partner to provide early intervention services for families with children birth to age three with developmental delays and/or health care needs.

Families who have concerns about their child's development should consult with their child's doctor or make a referral by using the EDN website or the Department of Student Services, Cozad Community Schools, (308) 784-3381.
