Dexter Wins CMS Hershel Olson Family Memorial Spelling Bee, Advances to State
Cozad Middle School recently hosted its annual Hershel Olson Family Memorial Spelling Bee, showcasing the spelling talents of nine outstanding finalists. After several intense rounds, Taegan Dexter emerged as the 1st place winner, earning the opportunity to compete in the Nebraska State Spelling Bee in Omaha. Braylee Carlson secured 2nd place, while Mason Johnson finished in 3rd place.
The competition featured nine finalists who demonstrated exceptional spelling skills and composure under pressure. This year’s finalists included Max Bazata, Lucy Hanna, Braylee Carlson, Bryson Barela, Taegan Dexter, Reagan Chrisinger, Matthew Rhoades, Nolan Yilk, and Mason Johnson.
The annual event was made possible through the generous support of Mr. Joel Carlson, who sponsored the prize money for the winners. Cozad Middle School also extends its gratitude to Mrs. Jennifer Walls, who served as the Spelling Bee Coordinator, ensuring the competition ran smoothly.
Dexter will now prepare for the Nebraska State Spelling Bee in Omaha, where he will represent CMS against top spellers from across the state.
