Press Release from Wilson Public Library: Youth Entrepreneurs at Community Expo During Music Mondays Eighteen of Cozad’s youth recently attended an Entrepreneur Camp at the Wilson Public Library in Cozad due to a Youth for Excellence Grant. Attendees learned many facets of what it means to be an entrepreneur with hands-on activities using the UNL Extension Entrepreneurial curriculum. Students were able to pitch their ideas to a panel of community and business leaders during a “Mini Shark Tank” on Thursday, May 30, at the library. Most will launch their own business during a Community Expo held in conjunction with Music Mondays in downtown Cozad beginning June 3, setting up at 5pm and closing at 7pm. Stop by to see what they learned, buy some of their amazing products or sign up for their offered community services. This project was supported in part by state aid funding appropriated by the Nebraska Legislature, granted and administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.
Special thanks to Mrs. Dawn Beans, the CHS Entrepreneur teacher; Jennifer McKeone at Cozad Development Corporation, who was a partner in the grant; and Tammy Paulsen, CathyPflaster, Eric Ide and Laura Rody for sitting on the “Mini Shark Tank” panel.
Last year, 12 youth entrepreneurs who attended a similar camp. Ten successfully launched an enterprise at an Expo night during Music Mondays in June. The average sales per camper for the night were $45.00 with the top sales earner bringing in over $100.
